HDMC

Higher Defence Management Course

This is the core programme of CDM. It is a residential course of 44 weeks duration attended by selected officers of the rank of Colonels and their equivalent in the Navy, Air Force, Para Military Forces and civilian officers from the MOD.

Six vacancies are allotted to officers from friendly foreign countries. The course is pitched at the directional and conceptual level with focus on application of management tools & techniques in operational management. Participants undertake a Forward Area Tour, a Management Education Tour of private/ public sector establishments and a Foreign Tour as part of the course curriculum. In the culminating application phase of the course they carry out ‘Project Studies’ with a view to find solutions to the challenges being faced by the Armed Forces.

Participants are awarded the degree of Master of Management Studies (MMS) by the Osmania University and a Certificate of Advance Course in Management by All India Management Association on successful completion of the course.

0800 hrs – 1415 hrs.

Adm timings for offices : 0800h to 1630h (with a lunch break from 1300h – 1330h).

Uniform will be worn only on all Monday & when specified in College orders.

The aim of HDMC is to train and develop directional level officers of the Armed forces in concepts and techniques required to optimise operational effectiveness in the realm of higher defence management in war and peace.
  • Understand the national security imperatives and the defence planning process in order to effectively contribute towards perspective planning in the armed forces.
  • Enhance leadership potential and human skills through an understanding of contemporary leadership concepts, human behaviour and motivational process.
  • Understand the process of organisational development and interventions through the application of management principles and innovative training concepts in the armed forces.
  • Acquire a clear understanding of economic concepts and their application in the armed forces, especially in the areas of financial planning, budgeting and controlling leading to an efficient defence acquisition process.
  • Gain sufficient exposure to management concepts and quantitative techniques for effective planning and execution of logistics in a single and integrated service environment.
  • Leverage information systems to add value to the operational planning process using analytical decision-making in a net-centric
    environment.
  • Develop an understanding of systems approach, so as to optimally exploit the management concepts, quantitative as well as qualitative techniques for pragmatic decision making.
  • Gain an insight into the research methodology required to carry out an indepth study of management problems, so as to evolve workable
    solutions.
