MDP PM

Project Management (PM)

The MDP on Project Management is a one-week duration course specifically designed to equip the participants with understanding of project formulation, lifecycle, monitoring and control as well as using MS Project software. This is a unique course conducted only by CDM in the Armed Forces and will enhance the skillset of future military leaders in this vital discipline.

To provide adequate skills to effectively plan and monitor execution of large and medium size operational and administrative projects, using PM techniques.

Timing

Project Management (MDP- PM) 2025 will be conducted from 18 Aug to 23  Aug 25. Working hours will be from 0830 h to 1700 h with one hour lunch break from 1330-1430 h.

Project Formulation & Planning

Introduction to PM, Project Life Cycle, Feasibility Study and Detailed Project Report, Project Plan, Work Breakdown Structure, Task Responsibility Matrix, Project Schedule.

Network Analysis

Evolution of Network, CPM & PERT, drawing of AON and AON networks, precedence relationships, analysis of networks, Forward Pass, Backward Pass, Critical Path & Activities, Floats.

Time Estimation

Single & Three Time Estimates, Determination of Project Duration in PERT using MS Excel.

Resource Optimisation and Schedule Compression Techniques

Concept of Resource Levelling and Smoothing, fast tracking, cost vs time conflict, concept of crashing a network with specified Normal and Crash Cost, analysis of project duration vis-à-vis cost

PM Software

Utilization of MS Project software including initialization, calendar setting, generation of Gantt Chart, resource definition and allocation, resource optimisation, resource sharing, crashing and overtime using MS Project, creation of PM reports and dashboards.

Project Monitoring and Control

Financial management of project using Earned Value Management System (EVMS) utilizing, Earned Value, Cost Variance and Schedule Variance and indices.

Project Risk Management and Competencies

Risk Identification, Prioritisation and Contingency Plans. Concept of PM competencies as per IPMA Individual Competence Baseline (ICB) global standard.

The QR for the course is officers of the rank of Lt Col/ Maj, Cdr/Lt Cdr, Wg Cdr/ Sqn Ldr or equivalent officers with 08 – 14 years’ service. Officers who have already attended HDMC are not eligible and must not be detailed on the course.

The course is designed for 42 participants.

The duration of the MDP PM is six days.

Working hours will be from 0830 h to 1700 h with one hour lunch break from 1330-1430 h.
